Every time I would sit down to write, phrases would pop into my head. "It has to be relevant and informative. And entertaining. And funny, if possible. It has to be perfect."
Every time I get to the place where my blog sits in arrested development, with only five lines to its name, I think of doing other things. I work on my book. I audition. I do underwriting spots for WLRN. I do commercials. I dub telenovelas.
Online I began to notice other voiceover talent wrote monthly, sometimes weekly blog posts online. Me? I talked about writing a blog constantly, driving my poor web designer crazy. "I'm going to start very soon! I have so many ideas. I just have to get organized." The year flew by. Truth is, I was scared of doing it wrong. So I wrote nothing. Last week I had a chat with the lovely Rosi Amador over lunch during VO Atlanta. She looked me straight in the eye and said "talk about things you love."
The thing is, I love voice over.
I adore it. There is something so magical about this profession. I rewatched 'In A World' with Lake Bell last night. I didn't realize there were quite a few actual VO stars in that movie. I am obsessed with all things voiceover. I want to know everything. I want to be much more proficient with Adobe Audition, I want to record more demos, I want to be in a booth cutting spots all day long. The thing I am passionate about? Revealing a whole world through my voice. I am blessed when I can do that. What has made this journey so special over the past ten years are the extraordinary talents I have met, who are willing to shared their time and expertise. I get teary-eyed when I think how much I have been helped along the way.

Here I am, ten months later. I'm still scared but I no longer care as much. I have NPR to thank for that. There's nothing like being a radio host and flubbing something as simple as the weather, pressing the wrong button, cutting off a spot by mistake or forgetting your place when you're reading copy. Every DAY. I do it, laugh and move on. That's life. That's voiceover.
