Acting Is Key
Dubbing is a skill that requires you to be a good actor and think on your feet with very little information. You need to listen, observe and speak at the same time, a lesson in total focus. I learned the craft back in Miami and different studios like the Kitchen, Universal Cinergia, Macias Group and Centauro. I dub at different here in LA as well. ADR was new to me and I took a course with the great Johnny Gidcomb. You couldn't ask for a better teacher. What I learned from him three years ago helps my sessions today in LA. ADR is all about improvising.
When you dub, you're doing a bunch of different things at once. You read, watch the monitor, speak the lines, and act all at the same time, with no rehearsal. You need to be ultra focused and present.
